Exhibitions

Here you will find a selection of my exhibitions—solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and projects in museums, galleries, and unique venues.

My assemblages and collages, made from found objects, plant remnants, and natural materials, require closeness, time, and a careful eye. It is especially in intimate exhibition spaces that these small pictorial spaces can unfold their subtle effect.

Magdalena Hohlweg stands in front of Arolsen Castle next to the exhibition banner “[UN]scheinbare Welten.”

[UN]Apparent worlds

Mar 8, 2025 – May 18, 2025
Single Exhibition
The museum at the Bad Arolsen Royal Palace provides an exceptionally festive setting for the tiniest fragments of our everyday lives. It’s a perfect fit! Who says that only the royal legacy is worth preserving, marveling at, and admiring? My (vegan) insect worlds and the tiny bird paradises captivate with their sheer vitality and diversity. […]

“The Dust of Time”

Aug 5, 2024 – Sep 30, 2024
Group Exhibition
The exhibition THE DUST OF TIME uses a conversion of the Galerie Haus Bachrach for a group exhibition on current social deconstruction and reconstruction. Old architectural structures have come to light again in the gallery spaces as a result of the conversion. In the same way, many social structures are currently being called into question, […]

An open exhibition catalog titled “mitBLAU,” featuring an image of a blue-and-white MatriaSKAT playing card.

withBLUE

Mar 15, 2024 – May 20, 2024
Group Exhibition
I decided to take a digital approach to the traditional craft of blueprinting. The result is a card game in which traditional motifs meet new structures. I took both the rigid structures of the old craft and the traditional rules of card games as an opportunity to break with old rules and develop a new […]

Romance 2.0 – Bad Pyrmont

May 4, 2023 – Aug 20, 2023
Single Exhibition
Special exhibition at the Bad Pyrmont Castle Museum At first I was a little in doubt: How would my exhibits be shown to their best advantage in the colorful, classicist halls, against the backdrop of the very colorful textile wallpaper? The doubts were absolutely unfounded. On the contrary – I could hardly wish for a […]

Fashion Botanica meets Romanticism 2.0

Nov 24, 2022 – Nov 28, 2022
Group Exhibition
It was a wonderfully well-rounded affair together with Pia Wessels. Pia has enhanced the fashion pieces and accessories with plant parts to create wearable art. In the exhibition space, the dress dolls conveyed what my works on the walls showed: the bizarre and the beautiful belong together! Carrying out the preparations and the entire event […]

Lippe miniatures

Oct 23, 2022 – Dec 26, 2022
Group Exhibition
The artists’ colony of Schieder-Schwalenberg is also an impressive miniature village with a number of pretty little half-timbered houses. Miniatures have a long tradition. And so does the culture in Lippe. This exhibition brought together a number of miniature positions from the surrounding region.

Romance 2.0 – Bonn

Oct 13, 2022 – Oct 17, 2022
Single Exhibition
Romanticism 2.0 is not just the title of my manifesto. For my exhibition in Bonn, it was also the bracket for the smallest paradises that no longer actually exist. This is precisely why they play a central role in my works. As already mentioned, I enjoy preparing my events independently in terms of content and […]

[UN]Apparent worlds

Aug 29, 2021 – Oct 24, 2021
Single Exhibition
Special Exhibition at Namu Bielefeld The Natural History Museum is housed in a beautiful historic building, which is a real challenge for historical collections with its poorly insulated walls. However, the exhibition there is very authentic. The building breathes history. Thanks to the friendly team, I really enjoyed the hours I spent there with my […]

The Kap-Hoorn ART exhibition space in Gröpelingen’s historic industrial port provided a purist and exciting backdrop for this exhibition series, which is unfortunately no longer taking place. Hats off to the KapHoornArt team, who had regularly made this exhibition possible for international artists until then. A nice reminder of my participation in the last event […]

Exhibition view featuring miniature assemblages by Magdalena Hohlweg alongside wooden sculptures by Jan De Weryha.

Guest artist in the Jan De Weryha Collection

Jun 23, 2018 – Jun 24, 2018
Group Exhibition
The works complement each other perfectly in contrast, in the gallery in a direct spatial combination: Jan De Weryha always works the wood in a very archaic way. Rhythm and structure are emphasized in sometimes impressive “monotony”. The simple elements of my own collages, on the other hand, illuminate every last bit that I can […]
