Space and effect

The work changes in the room.

Size, distance and light determine how the picture is perceived – not as an isolated object, but as part of a situation. The photograph shown here conveys this relationship and gives an impression of how the work appears in dialog with its surroundings.

Further views then allow a closer look at the structure, details and composition.

Change of perspective

One of my most important sources of inspiration is trying to look at the world as if I were seeing it for the first time. I go outside my front door and try to consciously set aside any judgment or learned knowledge about my surroundings.

This state is almost impossible to maintain – and this is precisely where its value lies. Even the brief moment of not knowing opens up new perspectives and creates space for other forms of seeing. This experiment gives rise to works such as (K)EINE Insektensammlung.

A diverse bird community made up of plant remains, found objects and graphic elements populates a small, self-contained universe. Imaginative species appear side by side, surprising in form and posture. Some can be named, others deliberately remain nameless – as a mirror of infinite diversity

Effect and scale

The collage Birds Unlimited unfolds its presence through a close look. The works are small-format, deliberately restrained and demand proximity. Structure, material and subtle nuances only become visible when approaching.

The framing creates a self-contained pictorial space that can be read as an independent habitat. Organic finds and everyday fragments meet as equal elements. The surprising combinations create a field of tension in which nature, everyday fragments and art coexist.

Each work is framed dust-tight (anti-reflective museum glass) and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

BirdArt work no. 32 2020

Birds Unlimited brings together a colorful, detailed world of birds in which the familiar and the invented coexist effortlessly. The work does not follow a zoological order, but an open logic of diversity. New species appear without having to be explained.

Flowering birds of paradise, an aldercatcher, rosefinch, poppy-capsule booby and the resolute rosehip butterfly assert their place in the structure. An insect wing casually refers to a mayfly, while a horsetail complements the action from the edge. Other figures remain nameless. Not out of carelessness, but out of consistency.

The collage plays with the idea of limitless biodiversity. The addition of further species does not appear to be an exaggeration, but a logical continuation. Everything seems possible, nothing closed. The result is a small universe that is self-sufficient and yet remains open – surprising, polyphonic and full of quiet discoveries.
