The most banal remnants unfold their artistic potential when I trustingly and optimistically give them the attention they need.
Then a few additional strokes turn the remains of a seed pod into a unique sculpture full of character.

A few more bizarre finds are added to create new habitats. Weird birds gather around plant remains and small pieces of garbage.

There’s room for a bird in even the smallest niche

This colorful society shows us how it’s done – despite the many idiosyncratic characters, the chirping community somehow manages to get along. And when things get tight? Then we just slide together. Together we are inseparable. Poppy and fuchsia flowers come together here. On the far left, two seed capsules of Japanese winged knotweed. The name is official. Really. Insect wings from windowsill finds lend wings to the work. Beep!

Out of the Box

The cards are collected in an attractive cardboard box. You can of course also pass the cards on individually. Oh no – better order several packs of ten.

I am really proud to be able to present these photographs to you. These three-dimensional filigree scenes require more than just the best lighting. In order to capture all the tiny details crystal clear, each photo consists of several superimposed shots. Only in this way were we able to achieve the right depth of field.

The back of these motif cards can only be written on to a limited extent – preferably with a soft ballpoint pen. To achieve the best quality for the motifs, the back of the cards is also coated.

My name is Hohlweg. Magdalena Hohlweg

I am touched that you have opened these pages. I didn’t make these works up out of thin air, even though they may look like they were thrown together with a light touch – I work meticulously down to the smallest detail 🙂

I am an artist.
I glue the smallest plant remains and other found objects onto paper.

In 2018 I was nominated with my works for the art prize of the city of Fürstenwalde.

I passionately give my all to my art – on just a few square centimetres. With great attention to detail, I focus on what is actually monumentally insignificant.

How do you come up with such ideas?

I am often asked this question.
Well – that’s how it came about.
…A little over ten years ago, I had to admit to myself that I had been pursuing the wrong goals in my previous life. The principle of “higher – faster – further” had caused me to slide straight into a burn-out. I had finally given up my artistic ambitions because I didn’t think I could cope with the many demands. I chose a different career path – and failed completely.
I then had to leave a lot behind for a happier new start. My life literally lay in front of me like a blank sheet of paper that wanted to be designed. Nothing but emptiness. Everything at ground zero. Where was the beginning? Where was MY beginning?
Every line, every color, every shape, really EVERYTHING had already been so masterfully accomplished by others that I should ideally not even try to strive for something comparable. Or should I?
Only gradually did I realize that, despite everything, I could contribute something interesting – my very own point of view.
I now wanted to contribute my own point of view.
Now more than ever! There’s nothing left to lose at the zero point anyway. At the same time, I soon realized:
The zero point is a powerful new beginning.
I would create what I saw myself.
Life and art – the pile of broken pieces at my feet – became the basis for my collages.
At first, I thought that after a year I had certainly looked at everything and had thoroughly worked through this theme of collages made from the smallest found objects.
But no – I refined my techniques more and more. Every day I still make new discoveries that I want to put into practice.
I hope you enjoy immersing yourself with me in this micro cosmos, which seems to me to be incredibly changeable and diverse. This immense abundance has always been there. I just hadn’t looked at it properly. I can’t wait to see what you discover for yourself. Buy now Imprint
