…because art is on the street.
In any case, I find the material for my works wherever I walk and stand. As soon as I slow down, I find new and interesting things everywhere. It’s simply good to take time now and again to notice the little things around us. Taking our eyes off the distant horizon helps us to come back to ourselves. The smallest moments can be incredibly beneficial to catch your breath in the hectic hustle and bustle of everyday life and the flood of news.
Even when I’m out and about on my bike, I find interesting things lying on the ground. For some discoveries, I just have to put on the brakes! This film was made during the extensive Corona restrictions. But at least a bike ride was allowed and very relaxing.
The fact that I find very small and inconspicuous finds right away and in abundance is also training to a certain extent. The more I discover, the easier it is for me to focus on interesting remnants, in which I very quickly see the value for my work. However, I have probably always had an eye for the small details. Our perception, including our vision, is a very individual thing. Everyone perceives their environment selectively. Which sections of our environment we realize most easily certainly has a lot to do with our habits. It is certainly not possible to clearly define which aspects of our behavior or our sensory perceptions are innate or learned. My keen eye for some details didn’t seem significant to me for a long time. With my artistic work, I now use my focus 🙂
